Area Cooling Stations

The U.S. National Weather Service in St. Louis is warning that the heat index this afternoon and early evening will range from 100 to 106 degrees with actual temperatures ranging from 93 to 101 degrees. Cooling centers in Jefferson County are open for anyone who needs shelter from the heat. The following locations are providing a place to cool down in the days ahead:

■ Crystal City Public Library, 736 Mississippi Ave., Crystal City – 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

■ De Soto Rural Fire Protection District Station 1, 201 E. Miller, De Soto – open 24 hours.

■ De Soto Rural Fire Protection District Station 2, 3610 Hwy. V, in the De Soto area – open 24 hours.

■ De Soto Rural Fire Protection District Station 3, 12545 Ware Road, in the De Soto area – open 24 hours.

■ Hillsboro Fire Protection District Station 1 – 120 Fifth S., Hillsboro – open 24 hours.

■ Jefferson County Rescue Mission, 8943 Commercial Blvd., Pevely – 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.

■ Jefferson County Health Department, 1818 Lonedell Road, Arnold – 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.

■ Joachim-Plattin Ambulance District, 1235 North Truman Blvd., Crystal City – open 24 hours.

■ Knights of Columbus Hall, 13225 Hwy. E, De Soto – 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday.

■ Northwest Branch of the Jefferson County Library, 5680 Hwy. PP, High Ridge – 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.

■ Feed My People, 3295 Ottomeyer Road, High Ridge – 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday.

■ Northwest Jefferson County Senior Resource Center, 6180 Hwy. MM, House Springs – 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday.

■ Windsor Branch of the Jefferson County Library, 7479 Metropolitan Blvd., Barnhart – 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday.
