The new Festus Public Library, pictured above, was officially opened on February 9, 2009. The 15,000 square foot building is located at 400 West Main Street in Downtown Festus.
LIBRARY PROCEDURES
RESIDENT CARDS
An application card must be filled out by an adult who must show proof of identity and residency and provide references. Cards will be issued to children when they have completed first grade. Children under 14 years of age must have parent or guardian signatures. When there are several cards issued to members of an individual family, it is suggested that the total number of books checked out at one time would not exceed 25. This will make it possible to circulate books to other patrons if you take only what you can read in a two-week period.
NON-RESIDENT CARDS
Anyone living outside of Festus city limits but within Jefferson County may obtain a non-resident card by filling out an application and paying a fee of $20.00 per year for the family.
ALL LIBRARY CARDS
Library cards should be presented each time library materials are checked out. LIBRARY CARDS ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE. BORROWERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL ITEMS CHECKED OUT AND ALL FINES ON THEIR CARD.
RENEWING BOOKS
Library materials (except videos) are checked out for a two week period. Books may be renewed by phone (one time only) for an additional two weeks as long as materials are not overdue. Books on a waiting list may NOT be renewed. Fines on books and magazines are 5 cents per day per item. Videos and DVDs have a 1-week check-out and a fine of $1.00 per day for DVDs and 50 centsa day for videos if not returned on time. Videos and DVDs may NOT be renewed.
GENEALOGY COLLECTION
Local history, Festus newspapers on microfilm, some cemetery records, CD ROMs and other genealogical materials are available for use in the reference room.
